This should have been a re-blog. Yet, I couldn't reblog the post. Sarah Becker from Plumas Lake, CA, wrote an amazing post in response to the Letter to My Newbie Self Contest." Her post was called "Buy the Sunscreen" She is a very beautiful agent, inside and out, who is 33. Around the time she graduated from high school, there was a popular motivational song that was apparently played at a lot of high school graduations. It was called, "Buy the Sunscreen." I hope that you will take the time to check it out.
Dang....maybe that means that I'm old when I realize that I am old enough to really appreciate the value of sunscreen. For those living along the coast in California, the title was probably very relevant. (Have you seen how leathery some outdoorsy people that didn't use sunscreen look?) The song offers some great motivational tips.
I couldn't get her link to "Wear Suncreen" video to open but I found the YouTube video. The message of the adverstisement that is attached to this video is almost as powerful as the video itself. The Dove advertisement describes how women have a tendency to focus on our negative qualities and that we are actually much more beautiful than we think we are.
Sunscreen helps us stay beautiful...... yet the true message isn't about sunscreen. It contains numerous tidbits of wisdom such as:
1. Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Never mind, you won't appreciate it until you are older.
2. Do one thing everday that scares you. (Prospecting might be a good idea.)
3. Don't be reckless with other peoples hearts. Don't put up with those that are reckless with yours.
4. Keep your old love letters.
5. Throw away your old bank statements. (Well...don't forget IRS requirements - long term assets - length of time that you own them plus three years. Six years payroll records of employess that are not currently employed by you.)
6. Dance.
7. Be kind to your knees.
8.....Watch the video.....
Going back to Sarah's post to her newbie self:
9. Trophies don't mean crap.....It's net commission that counts.
10. Never EVER count on a paycheck.
11. "Don’t be afraid to share info and help other agents.Don't worry Honey, Most of them won’t listen to a word you have to say. The others are not willing to work hard enough to compete with you. When someone comes along that does they are worth the effort to see them blossom. There is PLENTY of business for you all." per Sarah Becker.
Thanks Sarah for writing such a motivational post.
Sondra
