Hi Dave - they are definitely a site and an attraction for both residents and visitors of Arcadia - be aware they can be quite loud.
Roger - are there many peafowl in Ohio?
Nice pictures Michael. We see Peacocks here at the zoo and at one local restaurant in Salt Lake City, but thats about it. Beautiful birds.
They are beautiful! I've only ever seen peacocks in a zoo, never just walking around on their own.
Scott - are the birds at the restaurant just wandering around the parking lot?
Sharon - you need to drive carefully on certain streets of Arcadia and southeast Pasadena -- the peacocks/peahens walk quite courageously down the streets or sidewalks. I wanted to capture at least one on top of a roof but no luck the day I took the photos.
Michael, That is so funny to see peacocks just strutting around. That male really posed for you.
Michael, They are beautiful birds but rather mean and they make a big mess. Great photos.
Jeanne and Ralph - nicer from a distance, I'll say.
Roger - ba da dum cha
Belinda - I don't think he even cared he was posing for the camera or did he?
Debbie - I definitely kept my distance -- as I was driving by a home, I saw one walking up a driveway as soon as I stopped my car and grabbed my camera off the passenger seat, he was already out of sight.
Michael - I once lived near a zoo and a peacock escaped, or so I thought they had, when I called to report the missing bird that was in the backyard. I was told they come and go as they want to, and that they would return to the zoo when they were ready. I was also told to keep a safe distance! It was fun to have that kind of visitor. Loved your photos!
Laura - they certainly feel free to come and go as they feel without regard to anyone or to anyone's property. I've heard it also best to keep a safe distance and I did.
Joy - absolutely not -- the city of Arcadia website even lists the type of plants/vegetation that peafowl dislike so that they will not be attracted to residents' gardens.
Michael, what a great photo, I remember being in Germany and trying to take a picture of the Peacock when the feathers are like your top photo, that is virtually impossible to take...Congrats on a great Photo!
John McCormack just wrote a blog post about one attacking a child at the Albuquerque Zoo! But they sure are pretty!
When I lived in Sierra Madre I would see them on walks sometimes... they seemed pretty territorial. Don't think I would want them taking over my front porch-- even though they are beautiful! Kathy
Michael, these are some proud birds! Love that top shot with the feathers spread.
Kathy - and if the peacocks were on your front porch, it would probably be best to let them decide when it was time to leave.
Pat - he does an impressive span, doesn't he?
Loved what Roger D. Mucci said--at least a knows a good lookin' fella when he sees him.
