 Bird nest

There is a new car wash in town.  New to us anyway since our return to Durango.

When I think of car washes, I seldom think of it as potential housing.  The sparrow community does.

While waiting our turn to be washed, I looked up to see several sparrows on a small ledge at the top of the artful stonework.

Upon closer inspection I saw nesting material .  The birds had seized the opportunity to make good use of the space available.

Located right across the road from the local Home Depot, these innovative architects not only have a great location, but have a wonderful view from their ledge condos.

It is always fun to see the pioneering spirit in wildlife of all kinds.  They accomplish so much by just using their innate abilities.

We can all learn from watching!

Jeanne and Ralph - even little birds can give rise to "location location location..." Wildlife has ways of adapting or owning.

Hi Larry,

Looks like they found a great location to make their nest and free from predators. The raptors can be so cruel when they take eggs or baby chicks out of the nest so this looks like a safe haven for the eggs.

Jeanne & Ralph, recently we saw a nest above a picnic table at rest stop along the highway.  You are right birds and animals are very resourceful.  Good luck getting settled in Durango.  It was many, many years ago when my sister & I stayed overnight in Durango on our way back to Colorado Springs where she was stationed at the time.
