Creativity Flows Once Again In Warren, RI

I spent my Sunday between Bristol & Warren RI. I ate lunch on the water, visited some shops in downtown Bristol then headed home. On my way through Warren, RI we decided to pull over and walk along Main Street. What I noticed is that Warren is once again coming back to life.  Warren went though a period where business on Main Street had closed down due to economics, lack of customers and other issues. Now we have new businesses opening up at a fairly steady pace. So, on this beautifully warm Sunday in June I decided to drop in on a few and chat up the owners.

Boheme: Locally made fine art, jewelry, clothing. I chatted with Karen the owner for a short time and she said how excited she was to open up a shop on Main St Warren. She's been open for about 3 weeks or so and is one of the stops on the monthly Art Night tour.

The Coffee Depot: The Coffee Depot, a cozy and lively gathering spot, is centrally located in downtown historic Warren. Friday open mic nights are a big draw for music lovers and regional musicians. Monthly art exhibits by area artists are also popular. The Coffee Depot is directly across the street from Boheme.

Stella Marie Soap Company: Stella Marie was founded in 2007 out of a desire to merge artistic expression with a passion for the bath. Her business has grown from a tiny pantry in an apartment to a 2000 foot shop and retail space in Warren, RI. They make the most delicious smelling soaps. I stop in to the shop  as often as I can to check out the new "flavors".

Woof Woof Pet Boutique and Biscuit Bar: Woof Woof is exactly what it says it is. It's for the dogs (and cats).. and owners are allowed inside too. WOOF! WOOF! is a modern, fun, dog bakery & boutique for your pets. They are Rhode Island's "ORIGINAL" 10' biscuit bar, filled with 8 varieties of our all natural dog biscuits.

I recommend the walkability of downtown Warren's Main Street to anyone looking for a quaint, artsy, casual afternoon spent shopping or window shopping. You'll find it's more quiet than downtown Newport or Bristol and less crowded. Stop in and enjoy the creativity that flows once again in Warren, RI 02885.

Heidi, I went to High School in East Providence (lived on 5th Street), and bought a house next door to Warren, in Barrington, before moving to CT.  It is music to my ears to hear that Warren is showing signs of life again, and maybe the next time I am in RI to visit family, I will drive through to see some of what you have written about.

That's great news. We have neighborhoods like that here, as well, as they're really doing better now. I'm sure the store owners appreciate the positive press.

George- I have lived in East Providence most of my life, and graduated from EPHS as well. Warren is really flexing its creative muscle. The next time you come to visit try to spend some time on Main St & Water St in Warren.

Jill- I sure hope the shop owners appreciate the blog..I sure appreciate their shops! Thanks for reading my post.

I always love driving the shortcut along the water in Warren on my way to Bristol and Prudence Island.  Antiques, interesting shops and Blount's Seafood.

I love those quaint little shops on main street. They just add so much character to an otherwise "big box" run market. And who doesn't like to support the local shops?!

It is vital that retail flourishes to bring people down and spend money.

Sally & Dave- Thanks for reading my post

Ed & Ceila- I love plugging new business when I can. When they win everyone wins!

Barbara-Sounds like you know your way around Warren. Water St is the street with GREAT foods!

Nina, Wayne & Jean Marie- Ya'll should come to RI to pay us a visit.

Michael- It's a slow process but the economy is picking up here in RI. I think the smaller towns are over all doing better then the cities.

Suzanne- Shopping Local is something I try to encourage to all. Without the "little shops on Main St" there would be no color, no creativity, and certainly nothing to really "sell" the town to those who may want to move there.

Richie- The biscuits on the biscuit bar are made from all natural ingredients and can be used for human consumption...according to the owner & baker herself.

Harry- Well said.

It seems that the economy is picking up with all of these places or have they lost their jobs and are going it on their own. I do hope we are in an upswing.

Jimmy at least in RI I fee that we are finally on an upswing. I can only hope for the same in the rest of the country.

Inna- I agree. When I travel to other areas in the country I try to find those little Main Steets shops to help support the local businesses.
