Scholarship Winner 2013:
Arianna Koudounas
The Historical Society of the Newburgh Bay and Highlands presents a scholarship each year to an outstanding student from the Newburgh NY area. The student is chosen based on merit and an interest in history, historical preservation, archaeology, anthropology, or information services. Preservation of local historic heritage is the mission of the society. The winner is selected based on past local participation in the area and a quest to preserve the history and beauty of the Hudson Valley for future generations.
This year’s Historical Society winner is Arianna Koudounas. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, and a long time volunteer in the community, the Historical Society awarded Arianna a $1000 scholarship for her dedication towards the betterment of Newburgh.
A Newburgh native and New York University grad, Arianna recently relocated to Washington, DC to begin her career in urban planning. She currently works as a Program Officer at Partners for Livable Communities which reaches beyond the local DC area, encouraging urban planning tailored to each community’s local needs and resources nationwide. Never content without a challenge, Arianna is already pursuing the next step in her education. After learning that Georgetown University had a master’s program in Urban and Regional Planning she needed to make it happen. After writing her admissions essay about her passion for Newburgh, Arianna was accepted as a Master’s Candidate. Arianna will be working full time and attending Georgetown University beginning in Fall 2013.
Congratulations to Arianna and her family on this great accomplishment.
She continues to make her family, friends and Newburgh proud.
