I know an individual who, sarcastically and with a smirk, makes fun of duct tape repairs. Can you imagine that -- making sport of the greatest repair miracle cure of the past 100 years. It is a product well known around the world, and in Canada too. This same person is a stickler for doing things by the book, as in following manufacturer's guidelines. Well, in doing some research the other day I found a product, a high quality product, where the official manufacturer's repair specifies the use of none other than duct tape. So, how do you like them apples Mr. Anti-Duct Tape Home Repair?
I know better than to make this statement about duct tape without backing it up with evidence -- the language from the manufacturer's instructions. First, so you better understand the situation, the manufacturer is Ruf Duck® rain gear. The company makes heavy-duty rain gear that is popular with those who work outdoors including home inspectors or, surprise of surprises, duck hunters. A photo of such an outfit, made by Ruf Duck is below. (The identity of the top male fashion model, posing in the Ruf Duck outfit, has been cropped and electronically altered to add a few pounds to avoid litigation for using the photo without permission as he does not normally pose for free, instead making big dollars from those hosting his image).
I can only hope that this post officially, and forever, puts to bed the criticism of duct tape as a "non-conforming" or simply a handyman's repair. In the next few weeks, I will attempt to do another serious article, such as this one, on the other miracle cure for all ills that is known as Shoo Goo.
Directly from Ruf Duck, a leading manufacturer. These are the manufacturer's recommendations!
Q. Can it be repaired?
A. Yes. Ruf Duck® is rugged but not indestructible. If it is snagged or torn it can be repaired with duct tape applied to the inside. Clean and dry the area and place duct tape over the tear. Apply pressure. This will greatly extend the life and service of the garment in harsh environments. A high quality "duck" tape can be purchased through McKenzie & Adams, Inc.
Thanks for listening
