WE ALL GREW UP WITH THE NOTION THAT THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT.
When I started out in Elkhart as a Real Estate Agent. REALTOR (R) I had clients refer to me as there "Realitor". It was like fingernails on a chalkboard, because when I was in Real Estate School, it was driven into our heads that there is no "I" in REALTOR(R). I would correct them. Now I just ignore it. The customer is always right (sometimes). It is different when a Real Estate Agent puts the dreaded "I" in REALTOR(R). enough said......
Back to my story. A young couple came to me and wanted me too find them a house to buy. They said they had searched for months on the internet and in magazines until they found exactly what they want in a home. Here's how it went:
"We are looking for a 2 Story Colonial home on lots of land with 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, full basement, close to work and definitely NOT in a subdivision and blah, blah, blah.."
I took all of their criteria and put in my computer, so I could show them anything they liked. Well, 6 months and 150 homes later they said they wanted to look at a home they found on the internet. It was a Brick Ranch, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, no basement and in a subdivision. They eventually bought the home and still love it.
The only thing they wanted and eventually got was 2 bathrooms near work. That was a big learning experience for me. I was told that Buyers were Liars". To be fair, that is not exactly right. The customer in this case thought he was Right, but didn't know what Right was. I have found that if you listen to comments during the showings, they change their "WANTS" and the Agent has to pick up on that in order to give them the right home.
When a couple entered a house for the first time and don't comment and just look around, it is not the right home. When they walk into a home and gasp! and say oooh! or Wow! or something close, then you are on the right track, or maybe just sold a home.
I know that I AM THE ONLY ONE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO BECAUSE, I AM ALWAYS RIGHT or AM I?
