Small Pictures...Big Impact

By
Home Stager with Judy Heinrich Home Staging

Now that Gina has gotten all of our creative juices flowing with art ideas I thought I would share with you a more creative way to hang a group of smaller pictures for bigger impact.  I got sort of tired of seeing the same old "collage" of artwork hanging on walls and wanted to do something different.  I love the look of several pictures overlapping each other on a shelf, but the first time I tried this, I was putting it up over bench seating and didn't want anyone's head to hit the shelf.  So I nixed the shelf and hung them up without it!  I used long nails to hang the two pictures that overlap the other two and that was it.  Easy way to make a nice grouping... and different!

Judy-

I've done the same type of effect on mantels, but never directly on the wall.  How did you hang those, exactly?

I just hung the three bigger pictures with regular nails/picture hooks as usual, then used 2 inch nails for the other two overlapping pictures.  Since they're not heavy, I didn't hammer the nail in all the way...they stick out far enough to hang the little pictures on.

I too love to group photos.  These adorn my living room walls.

Lenn - You have some very nice pieces! Several look as if they are done by the same artist...are they originals?

I wonder what it would look like if you used even longer nails thus causing the pictures to "float". Ever try that.

James, good idea... I'll have to try that one and see how it looks!

I like the pics, but lately the sellers have had their walls recently done, (new construction) and requested no pics on the walls, Any suggestions?? I also just went to staples and had them blow up 8x10 pics from a photo cut from the magazine. I framed these inexpensively and have them sitting on tables and such. CHEAP

Phyllis - I like your idea of blowing up photos and framing them.  I've seen framed pictures from beautiful "coffee table" books which turns out nice as well.  And I just don't understand why people are afraid to put a hole in the wall to hang a picture...there is something called spackle and touch up paint!  Makes no sense to me!
