Why do I believe that good things will happen?...because I choose to do so!!

What is it about human nature that makes us see the glass as half empty? It seems it is always easier to dwell upon the impending doom than to maintain an upbeat positive attitude.

Even though in my own personal life and in my career path, my own overall happiness and wellness have proven to me the power of positive thinking, I sometimes falter and am guilty of being pulled to the dark side. Negativity seems to breed more negativity and you would think that the opposite would be true. I have noticed in reading my own writing, that it has a certain "preach-i-ness" to it. It looks like I'm reminding all of you to do good and be ethical and to uphold what I believe to be good values. In fact, what I'm doing is reminding myself so as to maintain those ideals as a personal reinforcement of my own true beliefs.

Simply waking each day is not enough to maintain a positive outlook.  It seems one must awaken each day and remind themselves why they will be successful today.  Those who are most successful in sales know that you are often not selling a home or a product.  In fact, you are selling yourself!  I simply turn this behavior upon myself by telling myself I am good at what I do, I am trained well and have maintained current knowledge of my profession.  Further, that I have assisted thousands of people to a calmer understanding of their home loans and that THAT is a worthy accomplishment.

Give yourself these little reminders each day.  Be happy!

Hi Shannon.  Keep preaching positivity.  It helps you and your readers.  I love the bouncy yellow guys.

Shannon:

Positivity gets easier to maintain the more positive you are.  Just remember, they are plenty of people out there that want to get the best of you and bring you down.  IT SHOULD NEVER START WITHIN YOU!!

The optimist sees a glass he can fill!

The pessimist sees a glass half empty!

Chris-Thanks!  Good advice!

Kathy- It can be rough hanging onto that optimism when the mortgage world has been running around and telling us that "the sky is falling"

Jacqueline- Thanks! Happy Monday!  Really good to hear from you too!

Shannon,

Great thought.  It isn't always easy to pull against gravity, but then again what else are the options.

Great comment on getting the impression that you're sounding preachy whereas in reality you're just preaching to yourself. The thing about ideals is that they're idealistic (sounds obvious, right?), so we can hold them and share them and "preach" about them without fully living them ourselves, and then fear that we look hypocritical. To me, the important part is doing exactly what you're doing: reminding yourself about the "perfection" you'd like to attain, but realizing that it may never actually be attainable. The trick is to keep trying. Thanks for the post!
