A tale of the markets

Real Data Strategies analyzed four distinct segments of the local market: entry-level homes, which are priced under $500,000; move-up homes, which range from $500,000 to $749,99; upscale homes that round out the six figures and luxury homes that are priced above $1 million.

The analysis of the Desert Area Multiple Listing Service shows:
Despite an across-the-board drop in sales, average prices actually went up. The fourth-quarter average sales price in 2007 was $492,824. That's nearly 2 percent more than the same quarter in 2006.

The move-up category (from $500,000 to $749,999) as well as the upscale homes (from $750,000 to $999,999) saw average sales prices stay virtually flat and even slight increases.
