Yikes! Finally, Montgomery County is getting bikes! Capital Bikeshare, which opened in Washington, DC several years ago, is putting bikes in Montgomery County! There are already more than 1800 Capital Bikeshare bikes on the roads and bikepaths in DC and Northern Virginia - and today they are coming to Montgomery County!
The Capital Bikeshare launch takes place today at 10:30 this morning - at the Courthouse Square in downtown Rockville. In recent weeks, several other locations have been built out around the county, including in downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring. So far, there are no bikes at the other locations- just yellow police tape decorating the posts, but once the Rockville location opens, Capital Bikeshare promises that they will begin delivering the bikes around the county.
There will be about 30 locations in total around the county- so I am looking forward to seeing the bright red bikes as they begin to appear - particularly in Bethesda.
