Southern Living 2013 Idea House
and lunch with an ActiveRain Friend!
What a perfect way to spend part of the day! This post is way overdue. But some things are better late than never. LOL
Last month I met my dear friend and Blogging Buddy, Debbie Reynolds, at the Southern Living 2013 Idea House. We were catching up on news after I returned from Italy. I had pictures and stories. She had exciting business news too!
We picked this location because it was half way between our two cities AND because we wanted to see this intriguing house.
The Southern Living 2013 Idea House is located at The Fontenel. It's on what we call the far north side of Nashville.
The house is Southern Living magazine's 59th house and the third built in Middle Tennessee.
It's completely unique in design and unlike any of their other houses. It's also the first to be kept as a public space. Other idea houses were sold as private homes.
The Fontenel, the former home of Country Music Hall of Famer Barbara Mandrell, will turn the home into a micro-hotel.
The house, itself, is made up of 5 buildings. The main house is one level with an extraordinary layout. The kitchen is large, functional and designed for entertaining. The master suite is beautiful and attaches to the library off the main living area.
There is a guest suite over the detached garage. Then you have a guest house with one suite up and the other down. Finally there are two "bunkies". The only way to describe them is they look like miniature houses each with a single guest suite.
The bunkies are on either side of the courtyard in this half circle shaped cluster of buildings. There are over 2800 square feet of porches that are wrapped with cable railings so they don't block the view of the beautiful gardens and landscaping.
The Southern Living 2013 Idea house will be open to the public through December 29, 2013. Hours are 9am to 3pm Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets are $12.
This is a wonderful place to pass several hours. Debbie and I sat on the swing for the longest time just chatting with her teaching me things I could do on my iPad!
You can see it there in the backround of this porch shot!
