Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day a national day of historic celebration for Americans. A day when we remember and are thankful for all that we have. A day of family and friends gathering sharing love and experiences, laughing, expressing political views, watching football, the kids enjoying the company of their cousins. A day when we also remember those who are less fortunate then ourselves, reaching out and sharing some of our blessings with them.
So, it sadden me on my way home from our day of celebration to see the malls and shopping plazas filled with shopper’s cars. We have allowed the retailers to encroach on this special day. They advertise their sales like trappers placing meat in their traps for animals, and we allow ourselves to enter into their traps. They are dictating to us as to how we are to celebrate this holiday. It is our dollars they are after, so we should dictate how the holiday is to be spent. Certainly not standing outside in the cold waiting for them to open their doors, and when the doors open pushing and shoving to get to the advertised hot sale item.
In addition Christmas advertising has now started even before Halloween. Strange as it might seem, I would like to say “Thank you” Publix for your Thanksgiving commercial.
We need to remember the “why” of Thanksgiving Day.
