Today, Monday March 17, 2008, Chicago and surrounding suburbs will start FREE RIDES for individuals who are 65 and over.
If you are 65 and older and living in the RTA region, you are now eligible for a FREE RIDE. The services extend thru Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry & Will Counties. You can use CTA, Metra and Pace. In order to take advantage of this service you will need either a senior-reduced fare card or the NEW RTA free-ride I.D. card. The processing for a new card usually takes 3-4 weeks.
How to sign-up:
1. Register at RTA's Customer Service Center at 165 N. Jefferson in Chicago.
2. Register at one of the 270 sites in Chicago & suburbs
3. Go to www.rtachicago.com for a list of sites
4. Dial 836-7000 from any local area code
How to use:
Just show your card to the driver, conductor or ticket agent, or use it at a turnstile or fare-box. You must show your I.D. card to be eligible for the FREE RIDE. If you don't have an I.D. card, but have a Medicaid card, you are able to use that for a reduced fare.
