The More Agents I Meet, The Less I Like My Dog

By
Real Estate Agent with The Pete Cook Home Group 21483n

First of all, I love my dog Max. He barks at sunshine as well as clouds very consistently, daily, hourly.. ...other than that, he is perfect.

Secondly, I also love great agents. Unfortunately, the word on the street is not always that positive regarding the average real estate agent for a couple reasons:Sunnyside Homes for Sale Max with Bone

1. A consumer is twice as likely to tell someone about poor service versus good service. Click the link for an interesting article.  Great work can go unnoticed from even your own client

2. Pareto's Principle reminds us that 80% of agents are significantly less experienced than the consumer would likely prefer.

What do we do? Hug an agent today and keep the great ones in the game and motivated.

Lets celebrate and encourage great agents when we work with them. Let them know the extra hours put in making the experience for both buyers and sellers was greatly appreciated even if your client did not recognize the effort.  Let an agent know that the transparency and timely communication helped your client meet their client in the middle.

Nothing beats working a second or third time with a great agent. Your market may be a city but it can be a small world in real estate.

So. Get out there and hug an agent today. It's ok if it is a long awkward hug. It's the holidays.

Love,
Pete

Unfortunately, I've met many more bad agents than good agents. When I do have an opportunity to work with an outstanding agent (or mortgage company), I always write a positive review for them and tell them how great they are. Wish I had opportunities to do more of that.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

My wild guess is that, among consumers, 80% will accept perceived lower price or "real nice" over quality and experience.

You can try to educate and make a mediocre agent better, unfortunately most of them think they already know everything

Great idea Pete. I'm not sure if a hug will make agents more or less likely to recommend me. I will give it a shot

Juan,

Juan,

A hug is a gamble. The hug part of the post came from a past experience in a previous job. I was really stressed about an event that was underway and going just ok.  The manager of the location knew me well. I am not actually a hugger. I clearly looked stressed. He cornered me hugged me and picked me up in the hug until I started laughing. It was one of the funniest moments of my life. You should have seen the rest of the employees and customers laughing. I'll never forget it or its real and comedic value.

Perhaps we can talk to Hallmark about creating a Realtor appreciation day when our clients are supposed to call us, send us a card or flowers.

Love the article and your sense of humour. It's interesting to hear that people are more likely to report bad service than good although I suppose one could probably come to that conclusion if they stopped to think about it. Why do we love to complain so much?

Aaron. Yes. A hallmark holiday would be hilarious.

Andrew. I think people on average have a hard time moving from their problems.. As a result, that is more often the subject in conversation.

Pete, great advice. In fact, building relations with other agents help our business in any market.

Give credit when it is due. You're absolutely right that there aren't that many good agents to work with anymore.

Going where no man has gone before - wouldn't you?

I believe it's human nature, probably from our survival instincts, to notice things that are wrong, or simply even just 'out-of-place'.  My goal has always been to strive for no negative feedback in every thing I've done.  Certainly doesn't mean that that is practically attainable, but when everything is finished and in its place and appears to have run (ran?) smoothly people rarely make any comments.  It's the mistakes that stick out and get the hair up on the back of your neck.
