"2014 Changes" ... in NAR The Code of Ethics ... from Ocean City, New Jersey

As all real estate agents know, "The Code" includes an interesting "Preamble" followed by "17 Articles" divided into three sections with Articles 1-9 under the heading, "Duties to Clients and Customers," with Articles 10-14 under the heading, "Duties to the Public," and Articles 15-17 under the heading, "Duties to Realtors."

Under each Article, one may find "Standards of Practice" which help to clarify and explain the specific Article.

In the Code of Ethics Arbitration Manual, which is not always seen or read by most real estate agents, one finds a great deal of information for several realtor committees in all Boards of Real Estate as mandated by the National Association of Realtors.  And at the back of said Manual, one finds "Case Interpretations Related to each Article."

I have always enjoyed these "Case Interpretations" and have used them in classes with new and experienced real estate agents as we review The Code of Ethics.  If you get an opoortunity, I would encourage you to review these pages when you get an opportunity.

Each year a committee at the National Association of Realtor levels reviews The Code ... and new information and/or changes might be included in a particular "article" or "standard."  Since 1982, changes have been made each year in The Code.  And every year when The Code of Ethics comes out on January 1st ... all changes are shaded so that when one reads The Code you are readily aware of a particular change for that year.

These sections represent the changes for 2014:  "Standard of Practice 3-2" in Article 3, "Article 10 and Standard of Practice 10-3," and "Standard of Practice 11-1" in Article 11.

Now you must find "The Code of Ethics" 2014 ... and check out the changes.
