SPY EXHIBIT LUNCH and TOUR
January 29, 2014
This will be a most exciting, insightful and powerful event filled day. Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates will be at the Ronald Reagan Library to discuss and sign copies of his latest book, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War which will be on sale at the Reagan Library’s Museum Store and must be purchased there to qualify for his personal signing. It is based on his experiences while serving as the Secretary of Defense under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The book covers his five years of service as Secretary of Defense – his battles with Congress, his interactions with the two presidents, the Pentagon, the military itself … his devotion to his ‘heroes’; the American Soldiers.
As well as having been the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and worked for the CIA before being appointed secretary by President Bush in 2006. He, in addition, was a member of the National Security Council staff during four administrations, serving eight presidents under both political parties which included being Deputy Director of Central Intelligence for President Reagan.
