The kitchen is the heart of the home, it does not only serve as a work space but also a gather place where everyone congregates. Do you feel like giving your kitchen a light face lift?
1. Plenty of cooks in the kitchen! If you like to work side by side in your kitchen with family or friends without feeling crowded then designing a large kitchen is a no brainer.
Easy fix: Add more prep-space, with for example a butcher-block island on lockable wheels, or kitchen carts. If you feel inspired, cover an old dresser/cabinet/table with galvanized or zinc sheet metal.
Even easier: Put a potrack on your wall, freeing up cabinet space. While you are at it, sort out your cabinets. Donate or sell what you don’t need or simply take some items out of the kitchen until the holidays or your event is over.
2. Change out your cabinet hardware! A screwdriver and time is all you need. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes.
3. Color me Rad. Add a splash of color to your kitchen. Consider a bold color for a small wall space, maybe your backsplash. For a special touch, why not try chalk paint?
4. Curtains make it feel homey! Glam up your eat-in nook with ceiling to floor curtains. Dare! Dare!
5. Let there be light! Change your kitchen lights to add interest and add character. Think outside the box – just because you have only seen certain light fixtures in kitchens, doesn’t mean that you can’t have the one that you always found intriguing. How about adding under cabinet lighting? It’s not as hard as you think.

6. Tile part of your kitchen island! The front of the kitchen island is often forgotten, however some beautiful tile or even some metal tiles can make a big statement in your kitchen.
7. Your cabinets: Your cabinets are most likely the largest surface in your kitchen, if you want to make a big impression, change them:
- add cabinet trim to doors or top
- paint or re-stain your cabinets, for most that takes a little courage
- I have already mentioned, changing cabinet hardware
8. Outdoors! It’s not really part of your kitchen but have you considered using your outdoor gas-grill more often? Clean up is easy and this leaves more room in the kitchen for prepping or entertaining.
9. Trash it! Why only have one trashcan in your kitchen, more people can reach it where they work, eat and drink.
10. Floors. Changing your floors is usually a bigger project – change to tile or wood. But if you have linoleum, have you thought about painting your floor? I think this could be a fantastic, inexpensive and quick idea to change the look of your kitchen.

Did you know? The kitchen triangle is the traditional way of designing the kitchen lay-out which encompasses the work area that goes from fridge to sink to stove. If your kitchen is big enough this kitchen triangle might have several work spaces within.
