What is a poetry slam?

A poetry slam is an event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer select the judges from the audience who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poet’s content and performance.

The format has changed somewhat from years past. All poets may participate in any of the rounds. In order to advance each poet must have new material which meets the time requirement for each specific round. There may also be some invitational poets competing.

The Poetry Slam will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Sign starts at 6pm withe competition beginning at 7pm. The Roswell Roots Poetry Slam will be held at Historic Roswell Cottage ~ 972 Alpharetta Street, Roswell 30075.
