Lincoln Square population is about 44,000 people and is located at the intersection of Lawrence, Western and Lincoln Avenues. The area just south of Lincoln has so many fine restaurants and was known for its German influence. Now it is a melting pot of everything and many people want to live in this area.
I really enjoyed the Lincoln Square Folk and Roots Festival in the last few years and recommend it for great food, music, dancing and all around fun. The Square Roots festival is great too and worth a trip to Chicago to experience this.
Lincoln Square is the home to the Old Town School of Folk music and is legendary in Chicago and the United States. They offer music lessons and concerts in the most wonderful sounds auditorium I have ever heard or seen. It was founded by Win Strake and Frank Hamilton in 1957.
To name a few performers who have played The Old Town School of Folk would take forever but a little name dropping is, gone but not forgotten, Pete Seeger, Mahalia Jackson, Jimmy Driftwood, Big Bill Broonzy, and Josh White. I saw one of Levon Helms last concerts he ever played with Donald Fagen a couple of years ago before Levon passed. In case you did not know Levon Helm was a founding member of "The Band" and Donald Fagen is half of Steely Dan.
