Eastern Subterranean Termites
Your home's worst nightmare. There's a popular saying here in Georgia regarding Termites. There's only two types of homes; the ones with termites and the ones that will get termites. Georgia is #2 in the United States for termites. They are hard workers, they look for your home's timber 24/7. There's a popular myth that they can even eat through concrete. This is false, but they can squeeze through a 1/32" crack in the concrete. Yes, they are determined; small, but very mighty.
The photo to the right is the Swarmer Termite. Any photos of the rest of the termite's family members will require parental supervision. The Swarmers come out in March and stick around until June. This is one of the biggest warning indicators that you have a problem. Another is when you see ugly red tunnels along your concrete basement walls.
There are several actions you can take to prevent termites, but once you see the Swarmers, it's time to call in the professionals. This is not a Do-it-Yourself Project.
