Four Easy Ways To De-Clutter Your Home

If you're like most of us you probably have a little more - or maybe a lot more, or maybe a whole lot more - things around the house than you really should have.

When you're living in your home that's one thing, but when it comes time to put your house on the market in Nanaimo and your Realtor asks you to 'de-clutter', what does she really mean?

De-clutter your homeTechnically, de-clutter means to gather everything in a specific room - the kitchen, for example - and get rid of the excess.  Easier said than done, you say?

Well, here are four easy ways to get your clutter under control and get your home on the market so that it sells fast:

(Understand with each item you have only three choices - keep it, toss it, or donate it.  Start by asking yourself when the last time was that you used the item.)

Step #1: Sort - Force yourself to make a decision.  Divide items into three categories - keep, toss or donate.

Step #2: Trash - When you're finished sorting, take no prisoners and toss what needs to be tossed, and donate what needs to be donated.  Then, move along with the 'winning' items that have survived the cut.

Step #3: Organize - After your tossing and donating you've no doubt got some new space.  Clean it up, then put your 'surviving' items in their new place so that they are pleasing to the eye.

Step #4: Finish The Job - Remember the items in the toss or donate stack?  Be sure to finish the job by boxing them up and taking them out to the trash or to the nearest charity.  Do this right away so that you're not tempted to re-think your de-clutter decisions!
