Oh Yay. I am Directly Connected to Trulia Now.

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Aloha Kai Real Estate

My title is hyperbole. I maintain a blog at the Trulia.com website already and
ActiveRain is owned by Trulia.

They recently decided to make significant updates. This one I like. My ActiveRain blog now has the word "Trulia" in it instead of the Z word LOL This is how the URL looks like now:

http://activerain.com/blogs/lanarobbins

I am very pleased with it on so many levels.

Having spent seven wonderful years with Coldwell Banker the Internet levels the playing field to the advantage of consumers.  Yes we stand on our own as professionals but Trulia does have branding thus synergy that may help us especially those of us who are independent.

Point2 syndicates our listings to these sites as well. Including to Trulia and the Z. Love them or hate them this is the free market:

Your Listing

As an owner of an independent brokerage, I am glad to see this possibly change for the better.

On Friday I hope to add another sales associate to our team. If she decides to join our brokerage, I will encourage her to blog here at ActiveRain. She is new and just recently passed the Florida sales associate exam on her first try. She is obviously smart. I hope she makes the smart move to ActiveRain too.

The synergies of both Trulia and ActiveRain with no additional cost should be a positive, not understanding some of the negativity.

For #30 and others that ask WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

I know this is simplistic and not to scale but consider this...

When you blog on AR you have about 250,000 members and when you blog on Trulia you have about 3 million daily hits.

In simple terms, you blog should now get about 10 times the speed moving up the google searches.

I did an experiment in March and posted the exact same blog on both AR and Trulia.

Today using the same search, I found the trulia blog on page 2 and the AR blog on page 11.

Just my humble opinion but an opinion from someone who has increased business 1600% since I started blogging 3 years ago and am 2013 Sales Associate of the year with the highest sales in Port St Lucie, so I am speaking from experience.

Hi Richard. Thank you for your comment. I actually do not pay to upgrade my Trulia or Z accounts. I rely on my Wordpresses instead. However I am excited that it is already helping me. For example when I clear my cache two of my ActiveRain accounts show up. One for Florida and one for Washington. I am very happy about that because I use my ActiveRain to post links to my websites that I totally control.

Hi Richie. Same here. I am optimistic. I've already seen a good change within the last two days.

Hi Bill. Thank you for your comment. I do not pay for upgrades with either Trulia or Z. It is the principle of them having our  data and re-selling it back to us that I find disturbing but for this... it's different.

If we become unhappy with this recent change then real estate professionals decide to leave than Trulia would have no business on this end literally. Some people already left a long time ago because they were unhappy. Fortunately many of us see a win-win where we are able to use our blogs like we want and they use our information to stand out from Z. For those of us who remain it is mutual.

Hi Jeff. Thank you for your comment. It's already helped within the last two days. I am watching it closely.

I am aware that some people may think I am naive about this issue and I should have mentioned that I do not put all of my eggs in the ActiveRain basket which is now the Trulia basket. It is a business decision and while some people are unhappy with this change I am very happy and excited.

Hi Matthew. Thank you for your comment. Some people have a problem with this recent change but for me it's more of an advantage than a disadvantage. I am not emotional about this as though Trulia is stepping in "our" territory. Our territory has already been stepped on my R.com and Z. I see this going in the right direction.

Hi Connie. Thank you for your comment. I already noticed a positive change within the last two days. It's anecdotal of course but I think it will help us and not hurt us. So far so good.

Hi Suzanne. I maintain a blog at Trulia though I do not pay to upgrade. If they charge in the future then I will cease posting there. I rely on my Wordpresses more than I do blogs that I post elsewhere and will continue to do so.

Unless Trulia decides to change their blogging platform. For example delete that option then that will have little bearing because my focus is on the blogs that I control like my self-hosted blogs.

Hi Jean and John. So far they have kept it separate entities with the exception of the URL which I see as an asset.

Bob and Kerrie explicitly stated that it will stay that way. If they were dishonest they would lose ALOT of business so I highly doubt they are being deceitful. Their jobs are on the line afterall.

Hi Will. I think it is already helping. I already noticed a positive change within the last two days. I do not pay to upgrade my account at Trulia. Some people do but I do not. I still think this is a great deal.

Hi Eric. Thank you for your comment. I am very optimistic. I used to work on the UNIX platform so am somewhat familiar with taking things beyond the basics. I think this can really really help us who decide to stay.

Hi Susan. Thank you for your comment. I think I am stating the obvious when I mention that I rely on my Wordpress blogs a lot. It's important that we not put all of our eggs in the basket. So far this recent change can be unsettling to some but I am very optimistic about it. I've already seen a positive change within the last two days. I am watching this closely.

Hi Pete. Thank you for your comment. I think some people are worried that Trulia will increase prices or change their pricing schedule. For example grandfathered accounts no longer being "free" which is a serious concern as I also have a grandfathered account so do not pay for this account.

However if Trulia changes ActiveRain drastically then we will flee. Instead I think they are making a business decision to expand their market share. In turn it helps us increase ours. To me this a win-win.

Hi Kevin. Thank you for your comment. My Trulia blog which I do not pay for gets thousands of hits by Trulia surfers. Here at ActiveRain it is different. My account is grandfathered in so it is free. Other real estate professionals view many of the posts but so do customers. Perhaps not thousands of hits like at Trulia but all it takes is one customer to contact me which they have.

I like both and plan to maintain both. Of course Trulia can decide to increase prices at Trulia and at ActiveRain but I doubt they will. If they do all of us would flee thus their business model would collapse.

They run their business like we run ours as in for profit. I highly doubt they will disenfranchise real estate professionals. They are methodical in doing this and so far I am quite pleased.

Don't be scared to say Zillow Lana as they are still so far ahead of everyone that it would take Trullia buying Realtor.com to catch up, now I wish I had of bought into that stock thing back in the day.
