"We just don't Read Enough" ... "Start a Good Habit" ... from Ocean City, NJ

A lot of people want to read more, and a lot of people don't like to read much at all ... which leaves those of us who are always out there reading a lot more opportunities to find the books that others aren't getting.  This is particularly true in great libraries like the one we have in Ocean City ... although I'm fairly confident to expand that thoughout Cape May County.

The first idea for everybody would be to skip one hour of television and find a good book to read.  How does one go about that?  You can check out books on the internet, or the library, or one of the few remaining book stores.  I purchase e-books a lot, and particularly when I plan to go on a vacation.  But I also buy at least one book a month at our downtown local bookstore because I want to help keep that bookstore in Ocean City. Finally, I often travel with my wife to Costco because you can occasionally find a book you are interested in at a lower price.  Now you have my contact points.  Except one ... your local library will always have all of the above books and many more.

I try to read both fiction and non-fiction, often at the same time.  As many of you might know, I read mystery books ... but I mix that with history, biography, etc.   For example, I'm reading a very good biography of John Wayne while I continue to read a new and interesting mystery series.  When I find one, I enjoy reading them in the chronological order in which the author has written them.

My wife and I started a book club at the Ocean City Yacht Club meeting for five months starting in May and running through September (the time the Club is open each year).   We are starting our fourth year ... and of all the book clubs in Ocean City, ours is the one that has the most men in it, often matching the number of women members.

My wife must belong to two or three different book clubs.  I like that because as we talk about the books we are reading, I occasionally find another source for good books.

Get into the habit of reading regardless of your age, interest, or whatever.  Reading is a smart way to spend some quality time almost anywhere.  My absolute favorite location is the beach on a rainy day ... as people head back from the beach, I'm on my way down with a beach umbrella getting a couple of quiet hours there.  I also like reading on the front porch and the back garden area in our home in Ocean City.  And I often carry a book with me whenever my wife talks me into going shopping with her.

Dustin- a HUGE YES!!!  I wish schools would focus more on getting our children to read, and teaching those who can't.  I have gone to all eBooks where I can because I'm tired of hauling around books.  I always have a book on my iPhone and will read when I'm waiting on someone, or before I turn in for the night.

Fun post to read. Reading in bed before going to sleep is the BEST sleeping pill anyone could take!
