CANDLEWOOD LAKE AND AREA BEACHES TO OPEN MEMORIAL DAY WEEK-END
In keeping with the tradition of starting the unofficial, but traditional summer season on Memorial Day, Candlewood Lake and other area beaches are set to open this week-end.
Danbury’s Town Park will be open from 11am to 7pm each week-end day. On a warm day (and the forecast is promising), there could be hundreds of eager beachgoers at that park.
In Brookfield, the Town Park Beach will open at 11am on Saturday and Monday, Noon on Sunday and will remain open until 6pm all week-end. This particular beach will not get into full swing until the middle of June, until which time it will be open only on week-ends. There will be lifeguards on hand.
The beautiful Lynn Deming Park on Candlewood Lake in in New Milford will open 30 minutes before sunrise for the early (and very ambitious!) swimmers, but lifeguards will not be at their posts until 11am. That park will remain open until 30 minutes after sunset, which now is around 8:15pm.
The ever-popular Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield will open at 8am and close at Sunset. In addition to a gorgeous, sandy beach, lots of picnic areas and large fields, the hiking is terrific around the Squantz Pond area, which is just across the causeway from
Candlewood Lake.
Not to be outdone, Lake Zoar’s Echler’s Cove Beach in Sandy Hook, Newtown, will open at noon and close at 6pm throughout the week-end. Lake Zoar was created by damming part of the Housatonic River.
Slightly farther afield from Candlewood Lake, in Ridgefield, Martin Park Beach at Great Pond will open at 10am and close at 7pm. Admission will be free throughout the holiday week-end and there will be lifeguards on duty.
In addition to the small sampling of Candlewood Lake area beaches mentioned above, there are dozens of other town and community beaches that will be opening and available for the enjoyment of local residents and their guests. Have a great, safe week-end and remember our fallen heroes!
