Untrained and unlicensed natural acupuncture! WASPS!!

By
Home Inspector with Charles Buell Inspections Inc.

It seems that there are always uninvited guests that know how to ruin a good picnic.

floating wasp eggsAs near as I can tell they rank right up there with rats and mosquitoes.  I am equally sure that in the “big picture” they do serve some useful purpose as food to other species on the planet---just not humans.

Recently some of these uninvited guests, yellow jackets, had the nerve to move into our compost bin.  Turning this into their home made it problematic to do anything near the compost bin, so a decision was made to “un-invite” them.  Not wanting to use “Raid” on the environment, I immediately thought of “Jerry the Bee Guy.”

Jerry has a very cool business removing unwanted stinging insects when they establish nests where they are not welcome.

When he showed up, he got out his vacuum cleaner and a bucket of soapy water and set to work.

In a few minutes they were all sucked up and the queen, her eggs and nest were either in the vacuum or in the soapy water---soon to be food for his chickens.  I guess they serve a useful purpose in the universe after all.

Jerry the Bee Guy can help you keep your picnic or home free of unwanted guests too.  I am not sure if this service exists in other parts of the country, but if you live in the Seattle area, just give Jerry the Bee Guy a call---unless of course you are into untrained, unlicensed natural acupuncture.

Let this be a lesson to you.  Don't have a compost bin.

We get our compost from a county facility near our house.  All you want for free.

Money for nothing, your compost for free.

That would make a great song!

Jerry lives in my neighborhood. I love the fact the wasps are recycled and reused as chicken feed. It's a win/win. I wonder if he has rancho rancheros every morning for breakfast? Would his eggs taste different that the ordinary free range eggs?

Jay, we neglected to keep it wet :)

Kim, would the rancho rancheros have a sting instead of a zing?

I've heard of several home inspectors who have came face-to-face with beehives and wasp nests under houses. I don't think I would like to be in a closed environment with that type of Acupuncturists!

I was attacked once by a zillion hornets coming out of a round paper nest the size of a basketball.  I was stung many times.

Money for nothing, your stings for free.

Another great song.

Charlie, We got rid of the shutters on our home because the wasps kept making nests behind them.  And we get the yellow jackets in the ground, so I have to mind my p's and q's when mowing just in case I find one of their holes.  Bill

Cool idea about Jerry the Bee Guy, Charlie... Never thought of that! Like Bill, when I lived in Earlington as a kid we had a drainage ditch near by... Every year those darn yello jackets would build a nest in it somewhere. Man, they could really raise some havoc!

That is an interesting service Charles.

Years ago we had an infestation in the wall of our home; we had a local service come and remove the queen by hand. Shortly after the whole swarm was taken away and used somewhere else.

Charlie, That is awesome. Great way to get rid of them. I assume if he runs into huney bees he jus relocates them to a new nesting site.

Jay, I disc harrowed up a nest of yellow jackets---got stung about 10 times and got stung again when I went over it the sencond time---slow learner :)

Liz and Bill, I can see where they would love such a place

Rene, they can get pretty mean spirited for sure

Tom, you just have to have the right gear for it.

Don, he takes honey bees for free

I was stung on both cheeks (face), in addition to a lot of other places, and looked like I had the mumps!

Interesting how creatures who are so small can bring so much pain to humans, who are bigger and stronger.
