LOL - the Z-estimate is a wee bit off..off by a digit

I was just in Starbucks and googled the address for my next appointment.  I wanted to see how far away it was and see the pictures, which would make it easier to find the house.

My jaw dropped a bit when I saw the Z-estimate.  Yes, it was over $5 million.  Now, I have been to $5 million dollar houses, and plenty in the $2 - $3 million range and tons of million to $2 million dollars.  But, this one just didn't sound right for the zipcode, nor the area of town.

No picts available, but it was just a 3 bedroom house.  I scrolled down and saw the last sale was for $425,000.  So maybe they meant it was now valued at $501,000?  Who knows.

I will find out at 3:00.

Good morning Debbie. Your story repeats itself daily. The one thing this company does well, is make money, accuracy not required.

If the public continues to click on them, and agents sign up, they will continue to spew their Zestimates.  Ugh!

I like Jon's picture, too.

I wish the consumer would stop relying so much on zillow. Last summer I worked with an out of the area seller that was so sure zillow knew more about the market then I did. We eventually ended up selling his house for what I told him it would sell for. But it took me three months to get him to that price point.

Debbie - OMG that is ridiculous.  People do get hung up once they have a benchmark, even if it's wrong.

Once a number is in the mind of a seller there is no removing it no matter what.  The number is what they saw and that is what they believe.  Do not confuse them with facts and accurate information, the number is the number.  A great disservice is done to all of us when erroneous information is spread around on the internet.  Oh wait, it is on the internet so it must be true...

Steve - LOL. How true.  but, in this case, she would know she could never sell for $5 million.
