OK, OK, OK - I GIVE UP!!!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Casmi Photography

OK - I have always been a self-proclaimed lover of winter.  I relish the change of seasons, the snow, the illusion of peace and cleanliness that a new snow brings.

BUT -  I am ready to throw in the towel - or shovel, if you prefer.  To concede defeat to Mother Nature.  I am publicly announcing that I have lost the game of the winter season.  I am no longer the "great champion of winter" that I have been for the last 50+ years.

So, in the interest of full disclosure, I am hereby passing my torch of admiration of the seasons to none other than ........................ Mother Nature.  She is certainly the most deserving competitor for my title.  I am defeated, ashamed that I couldn't go the distance this year, and apologetic to all of you that have endured my chronic case of terminal happiness about snow.

While we are a week into the Spring season, it certainly does not feel like Spring - nor does it look like Spring.  Just take a peek at last night's blessings.

I want my flowers to bloom, my flowering pear tree to be awash in white flowers, the lilac to fill with those sweet lavender clusters and the grass to go back to a lush green and the Gingko tree to fill with those delightful bright yellow leaves that tell me that spring is here - that all is right with the world.

I promise - no more photos of winter and snow until the next official opening of winter.  Cross my heart!

Your photos are always so idyllic in their beauty but I can understand the frustration with the continuous cold and everything covered in a white blanket. We all need color. I don't want to make you envious but lend a preview of what is just around the corner. Hang in there, spring is coming...spring, atlanta, azalea, bloom, pink

spring, azaleas, bloom, atlanta

maples, redbuds, bloom, trees, tree, atlanta

Rich - we should see that type of color and scenery within a month.  It's amazing how fast the plants will revive once we get above 50 degrees.  Thanks for boosting my outlook - now I know there is hope!  :)

It will come - it will. Our problem here is then so do the tornadoes and storms with high winds.  Winter is a breeze so to speak and we did get to 40 below.

Chad - I am usually the one that is crying and chattering about "please - just one more snowfall..."  Well, not this year.  LOL

Joan - How gracious of you!  LOL  But I still like snow!  So there!

April - You are much further north than we are, and I'm sure it takes a different level of stamina to navigate your winters.  Be patient (like me) and we will soon be fussing about the heat.

Kathleen - When I lived in Canada it got mighty cold, too.  But my complaint isn't the cold or the snow.  It's the up and down on the thermometer.  If it would just get cold and then stay there - OK.  But it goes from 18 one day to 58 the next, then back down to 20.  Don't know if I need shorts or sweats!

Carol, I know how you feel.  I didn't think our winter was ever going to go away this year either. It started early and it just kept on going.  We have finally had about a week and a half of weather that actually feels like Spring.  My Lilacs are starting to bud out, the Forsythia has buds, and my daffodils and tulips are starting to peak through the ground.  I actually saw some daffodils in bloom today and the Garden Centers at Lowes and Home Depot got in some pansies.  So maybe, just maybe Spring is really on it's way.  I hope it move in your direction soon too.

Hi Carol,

I am from Santa Barbara California...My wisteria over the trellis outside the dining room is blooming, my Jasmine is blooming and the jacaranda trees that line the street are budding...I don't know how you all do it...I would be so depressed without the sun and the green and the color!  God really knew what he was doing when He placed me in California!  ( I see dolphin play in the surf several times a week too!!!)  He placed the tougher people in the snow covered areas, I'm sure!  Maybe I'm a wuss...

Life is good in California!  Kim

Des - I'm with you!  We have multiple shades of brown, but it's still brown.  LOL  But right now we can also throw in those shades of "mud" just to add to nature's pallet.  LOL

Sandra - There are some of the bulbs trying to poke through, but every time they do they get slammed with snow again!!!  Ugh!

Kim - I love wisteria and the jacarandas.  Our forsythia looks like a wild child with a bad haircut right now! LOL  I am not a California girl, so I'll put up with my winters.  I'm glad it works for you, but I'd be miserable out there.

Carol - Would you believe it we had snow yesterday.  We had up to 4 to 6 inches.  I am truly ready for summer.  I like winter but I like it better for the holiday after that I am ready for the spring weather.  Which now we're in April.  So there April shower at least I hope we get some rain.

Hey Carol, Welcome to life in New England, from the comforts of your own home in Ohio! It snowed here yesterday too, and today we may hit 60 degrees with high winds. Go figure. I think Mother Nature has got the giggles because this weather is crazy!

Cheryl - Up in your area?  Heck yeah, I believe it!  LOL  But your summers are absolutely gorgeous.  It's coming.

Nancy - I was born and raised in New England, so I know how it gets.  And you're right - Mother Nature must have the giggles because she's keeping all of us on edge.

Mark - That's great!  Now I will surely keep an eye out for some flowers to come popping up soon.

Vanessa - The winters here aren't typically too bad.  Cold, but we don't get tons of snow.  We are in a little pocket just below the lake effect snows that Cleveland and other areas get hit with.

Actually... after reading some of your comments here... it sounds like you were suffering from what I used to call a bad case of "cabin fever" when I lived in Cleveland.

Carol,

Relocated from Toledo to west of Gaylord MI 12 years ago.  Located in the heart of the snowbelt, we measure it by the foot and schools don't typically close unless we exceed 6 inches.  Was fun when we came up to snowmobile and play on long weekends; but living and working in it has gotten old.  At least we had a Mother's Day this year with no snow.  Constantly trying to explain to out-of-state lenders (I'm an appraiser) why I physically can't get to a property within their time restainst.  Came to my senses early on after driving through a blizzard in white-out conditions that these are only appraisals which can wait - I'm not running plasma to the front line.  The last couple winters spoiled us with moderate November and Decembers.  Even this year had several near complete thaws but still - too long!Seriously considering joining those Hawaiian groups and learn the background info before September.  Enjoy the blooming flowers cause it's over in 6 months!

Karen Anne - not really cabin fever, just other plans in the works that will require some assistance from Mother Nature.  LOL

Richard - I don't relish the sense of urgency bestowed upon you by the lenders.  I know that many times they appraisers are pushed to get that appraisal done ---- only for the bank to sit on it for another 2 weeks before they do anything.  Always stay safe - driving in white-out conditions is not warranted for an appraisal.  It can wait 24 hours.  :)
