Saguaro Cactus
The saguaro cactus is a defining symbol of the Sonoran Desert. This cactus lives for an estimated 150-200 years and are the largest cactus in the United States. Historically, Native Americans would use the dead "saguaro boots" as water containers before the canteen was available.
Once the saguaro dies, it is common for its woody ribs to be used to build roofs, fences, doors, beams and ceilings in Arizona architecture.
