Wait, here it comes...the marketing insult

As a real estate professional, if you haven't gotten a call from one of these "lead generating" companies, you're probably living in a cave. I get these calls every week, and they're becoming sneaky by using local telephone numbers which I always answer.

Bing, Yahoo, Google, Trulia, Zillow, Market Leader...ad nauseum. The only thing common about them is I think they use the same copy writer.

If they catch me in a brain dead, or playful mood, I'll actually listen to the speil to see if anything has changed. Nope, same schtick, going on a decade now.

It's kind of funny though that they all think they can get you to change your mind by basically insulting you when you say no. It happens every time...you just have to wait for it.

ME: No, I'm not interested in your service.
THEM: So, I guess you're not really interested in growing your business.

Does anybody in their management actually read what their employees are saying. Do they realize that many of us consider that an insult. We're Realtors, and independent contractors, and yes, we're interested in increasing our business.

My new response to them goes like this:

ME: Here's a proposal for you. I'll pay you a 25% commission on any lead you send me for free when it closes.
THEM: We can't do that.
ME So, I guess you're not really interested in growing your business. Click!

I usually tell them my business is big enough! This is a bit like walking through the cosmetics area of a department store and people harrasing you to have a make-over. I usually ask them if they think I really look that bad.

Rich - I love that response. The calls and emails can get annoying. And let's not forget about the ones from the credit services who seem to regularly ignore "The Do Not Call" list.

I love it ich. Putting them in the same situation in their spiel should open some eyes however I don't think these people actually listen for any answer less then yes. They are Internet robots....

LOL...I love your response. I'm going to have to use it. 

I usually get asked if I would like more business. I tell them I have all I can handle, and that usually leaves them speechless. At least for a few seconds. Then they go on with the pitch. I tell them I'm too busy for their call and hang up.
