Saturday's For Real Estate....Right?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Real Estate RS301772

open housesThis is the first Saturday in a LONG time that I don't have something real estate realted going on.  Last Saturday I was holding an Open House (gorgeous neo-French colonial style home on 3 acres...vividly and tastefully decorated...) and then I went to Indian Rocks to look at a home for a CMA (comparative market analysis - comparing the home against others to see where it should be priced).

The previous weekend, I was taking buyers out to look at Lake Wallenpaupack lakefront homes for sale.  We drove all around the lake, and then even headed out to Fawn Lake Forest to look at a tear-down lake front on Westcolang Lake.

The weekends before - same dance, different song.  Open Houses, property showings, going to the office.  This is what I do, and I enjoy it!  I love introducing people to Lake Wallenpaupack.  I also love showing them the more quiet places, off the beaten path, so to speak.

But today - ahhh, today!  I'm relaxing and enjoying my morning coffee while my son watches Pokemon. Isis When I was a kid, Saturday mornings meant Scooby Doo and Underdog.  At noon I could watch Land of the Lost, and later, Isis.  Yes, I did say  "OH MIGHTY ISIS" when playing, along with hundreds of other girls...here is a nice review/commentary on Isis with some elegant drawings of the feminine super hero.

Interjectory Thought:  Is it a sign that you're getting old when you write stuff like "When I was a kid..."

Later today, the kids and I are invited to a bowling alley birthday party.  I'm eager for this because I need to practice for the big match this Wednesday night - our Weichert Realtors Paupack Group office has been part of a bowling league for the past several weeks (we make up 2 and a half teams!)  Thank heavens, we SELL REAL ESTATE much better than we bowl, though we have a couple of hot shots at the office.   I am not one of them.  My average score is 60.

But I have fun.  I don't take myself - or the game - seriously.  Some people at the Gravity Alley where we bowl are startled, maybe even mystified, by us.  We cheer each other for anything - if you hit one pin, that's worth a high - five.  A gutter ball brings encouragement and cries of "You were robbed! Call 911!"   We even cheer for the opposing team when they get a strike or conquer a split.  We just want to have fun.

An older guy approached me last week and he said "You know, I used to bowl in leagues for years.  But we never had as much fun as you guys do."

Amen!  Life is too short, and there are too many things to REALLY worry about.  So what if more than half my balls end up in the gutter?  I know one of my buddies is gonna high-five me anyway.

Now, even though I'm still in my fluffy terry robe as I type this, and even though I'll be bowling (or trying to) later today, I can still show you some of the stuff that is for sale around Lake Wallenpaupack or in Pike or Wayne County - it's easy!  Just click the links below!  If you need more choices, visit my real estate website and search all the property listings.  Find something you like & send me an email - or give me a call on my cell.  I may be playing hooky today, but I'm still here for you!

I haven't had much in the way of buyers lately so I have had some weekends off.  Open houses have filled some of them but I have just been taken some time off also.

Steve - I am even going to wear my Weichert badge - but I never leave home without my business cards.  "Knock-em-down Rice" eh??  Thanks for the vote of confidence!!  :D

Grant - yes, you do need to balance life and work.  Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to have a part in a Murder Mystery Dinner - a group of friends gets together for this every March.  Aside from my wedding anniversary, it's the best thing about March!  Thanks for the comment.

Gene - it comes in waves, I think.  This past week I was busier during the week than usual, and now, this weekend is like the lull after the storm.  Taking the time off is good for the soul - summer is around the corner and things should be nutty.  Hey, my step-Uncle lives in Virginia Beach!

I loved Underdog and Land of the Lost!  Ahhh, those days are long gone, but we still have fun in other ways, don't we?  Great to hear you're gettig a much-deserved Saturday off.  We need them every once in a while to keep the battery charged.  Have a great day!

Jonelle - yepper, typically it's hopping like a bunch of jumping beans, and I'm sure other agents are out there, running around.  I've got my Weichert badge on and am heading to the Wallenpaupack Lanes in a few mins; maybe I'll still "do real estate" today!

Greg - I loved Land of the Lost!!  But yeah, as much fun as it was watching those old shows, I'd really hate to have THAT be the highlight of the week!

Thesa - so glad you stopped by!!  I never cared for Felix that much but we are die-hard Speed Racer fans! Hubby used to watch it all the time, and when it came out on DVD, we got the episodes for our kids.  Funny watching the shows one after another you notice that it was pretty much the same three or four voices doing all the characters - sometimes  the cops and the crooks were the same voice!  LOL

Ohhh....I must be old!  I loved those shows!  Like you, I am enjoying a rare Saturday off.  Enjoying it to it's fullest, I might add, because I know that as soon as this snow melts there will not be any free weekends! Heading off to the batting cages with my son today...he bats, I cheer. lol  You're right...it's important to have that balance!  I always enjoy your posts!

Ok I have to admit I am guilty of watching those shows as well...Even Isis. I will admit too that being the terrible big brother, I would beat the crap out of my sister when later in the day she would pretend she was Isis while I was trying to watch my favorite TV show. She learned quickly :)

Karen, I'm liking your posts better each time I stop by. Yes, relaxing in your fluffy terry robe as you typed this is good. Speaking in your "own" voice, which it sounds as if you do.........is great.;-)

Hi Karen, I agree  with the person above Saturdays are always busy but .. you  have to have a little "me" time.  I just leave in the morning and do whatever hair, nails, massage, shopping walking  etc.. and boy do I feel great ...

Enjoy your Saturday!

Well folks, I'll have you know that I bowled a very  nice, even 100 points today!  There was an older couple next to me who were trying to give me pointers - and I said "Listen, I'm usually bowling around 50 - 60 points, so this is pro-level for me!"

Barbara - thanks for the comment, and hope you had a great time watching your son practice his batting!  Glad you enjoy my rambling!

Teri - Thank you for the nice words - and who else am I gonna be, if not me! LOL

Mariana, that "me" time is Soooooooooooo important.  It's amazing how a little mini-vacation like that - even if only for an afternoon...is so good for the mind, body, and spirit.

Way to go Karen!  I also bowled this weekend.  Got a 136 even though I bowl 3-4 times a year.  Lucky night.

Here's what's great about our industry and your profession.  You may be taking some "me" time and enjoying yourself, but your fun bowling time might be the most profitable activity you could have been doing at that time.  Each one of the people that you high-five is getting a glimpse of the great person you are.  They'll remember you when they need you.  Great thing is, you don't have to do anything but have a good time!

I'm a child of Scooby Doo and The Jetson's.  My theory is that Japan is planning a takeover by turning all our kids against us using subliminal messages hidden in these wacky cartoons they watch.  One day they'll press a button and we're done!

Karen,

Real Estate is a contact sport. The more people you come in contact with, the more likely you are to win.

Karen, it is funny when you are used to going and going each Saturday to have one off.  I feel like something is missing.  I played hookey yesterday and went downtown and had a blast.  I think I could be a ringer on your bowling team, one stinking pin at a time!

Hey, Kevin - thanks for stopping by!  If you want to join our league (we play in Honesdale) it's on Wednesday nights!  :)  And your Japanese animation theory is kinda skeery...lol.  Started way back with Speed Racer though!

Doug - how true that is - contact sport.  Thanks for the comment!

Jeff - thanks.  It's important to have fun a little

Audrey - I know what you mean about feeling like something is undone!  It takes a couple minutes to get out of the mindset that something is wrong!

Yes, Saturdays are busy for most of us.  How is everything at Lake Wallenpaupack?  Soon, the tourists will be coming and that Saturday traffic (I remember it well.)  Hope all is well!

Good post. It is a sign you are getting old when the people who you cheer for in sports are   your children's age..
