Does a good waitress or waiter look your order over before delivery?

Does a good waitstaff look your order over before delivery has been on my mind this morning. I was reflecting back to last years Oregon Realtor convention and the 2 different times that I ate in the resort. Nothing came out right. I am not that hard to please. If I order ham I did NOT want bacon. What happened after that is a whole another blog that I will not waste my time on,

Fast forward to yesterday when I went to one of our best breakfast places. The owner decided to waitress and have a newbie cook. My scrambled eggs where scorched and my wife ordered THIN pancakes NOT. They were  inch thick raw in the middle blobs. We asked the owner about them when she brought them to us. She blew us off. I will be blowing her off with my wallet not entering her place while they do a 6 months time out.

The time out includes the amount of out of area buyers that I fail to mention her place as a GREAT breakfast place.  Shouldn't the waitstaff notice if your order looks right before delivery? Your thoughts?

Since that's how I made my living for years, I'd have to say that a good waiter or waitress should always check your order before delivering it to the table and make sure it is accurate.  Believe it or not, that is one of the reasons I had so many repeat guests that requested one of my tables when they made their reservation.  I will admit, I always worked in high end restaurants, but that should not matter.  People are spending money and should get what they ordered.....end of discussion.

It is the attitude of the owner that would drive me away.  And I think if they want to try out a novice, they should give a discount on your meal (in your case, free) because honestly, I am not interested in paying for someone else's job training by geting poorly prepared food.

Good morning Rob. I hate when that happens and there is no excuse. You either get it right or kiss the customer goodbye. We are all only as good as our last deal or meal. They should have comped you and given you what you ordered.

Roger: you are so right. The only thing I DONT want a waitstaff to do is cut into my steak.

Susan: Agreed!

Sheila: They didn't . I am a taken for granted local.

Rob, my family has a long restaurant history and I've worked and owned more of them than I care to mention.  It's tough work, but the customer is always right...even when they're not.  The quality of service is in the details and I often give "time outs" and sometimes have to cross them off the list. There's an analogy here with real estate and how you treat your clients.

I'm with you on this one....I would not be returning.  Yes, I do believe the wait staff should do their best to guarantee you are getting what you ordered.

Rob, like Roger, I believe every server should check the order to be sure it is correct.   It could make or break your tip --- YOUR money.

Nick: Agreed thanks for commenting!

Sharon: Seems like it would be simple to look first.

Joan: I did somehow forget to tip especially when it was the owner that did this.

Good service is good service.  Bad service is when the owner and staff don't care if the what they are providing is bad.  Yes, I can forgive a mess up if there is an apology. No apology and a too bad attitude results in the loss of my business.

Hi Rob,

I would definitely not be returning! The attitude of the owner tells me all I need to know about how her business is run...there are plenty of other restaurants that can give you what you want and expect!
