Parsonage Searcy AR long ago

The back of this picture has in writing, "Pastors home Searcy."

According to other research that we have done, this house was probably located on East Park Avenue where the Park Avenue Baptist Church is now located.  It appears to be a charming house made with the mixture of rock with brick that was popular at the time.  The bay window is charming.

Their first church was in a house and we put that house on our blog a few days ago.  Paula Mulherin supplied this picture of the first church building.  Hubby tells me that the water tower in the background was to supply the shoe factory which was located behind this house.

I'm just guessing, but I think the parsonage would be on the same street and very close by.  If anyone knows exactly where the parsonage was, let us know.

That is an interesting history of the property.  I wish you well selling it.

Sorry Barbara, but the first picture is not related to Park Avenue Church. It is the parsonage for the West Race Baptist Church and was located directly across Race Street from the Church.

The parsonage for Park Avenue Baptist was located on Park Avenue next door to the Church. One of the pictures you showed earlier of the newly built Church shows a corner of the parsonage just to the west of the Church building.

Locust Street located on the East side of the Church went directly into the shoe factory parking lot at the time.

Mary: do you think that house is still there, intact, on West Race St.? also, I will answer your earlier email before this day is over.

No, Anita, it's gone. I just took a look on google and there is bus parking, a playground and the Church offices on that site. All church related so the property still belongs to West Race Church.

Would that have been the residence of the pastor when I was in school, Randall Reddin was the son. He professed to the ministry and I (and a group of us) went to hear his first sermon.

Yep, Anita and Mary, I did my drive-by and found nothing like this home.  It's another one of those "shames" that the old homes (they don't have to be old either) get torn down for parking lots or gyms.  Some deserve to go because they are in such horrid conditions but some deserve to stay because they are historic or just excellent homes.  One other thing which I think the citizens don't understand is that once they are owned by the churches the real estate taxes are gone.  I agree that the church building itself can be tax exempt but I question the wisdom of letting churches spread out bigger and bigger and pay no taxes.  Sorry if you disagree with me.

I agree, Barbara. Will ANYONE agree with me that the Park Ave. first church house, greatly resembles the Richard Deener house, 306 E. Center?

Anita, I agree.  I drove by that house the very next morning and found it not the right one.
