AK Realtor Disappears During Showing - How Safe Are We?

As a member of the Naples Board of Realtors I receive a weekly newsletter and as I was checking my email today before I left for a commitment I came across two things.  An email from Tanga of it's daily sales - one of the items was a group of "safety" products including a stungun that looks like a cell phone.  I am always joking with my son about getting one since like most realtors I will meet clients at homes before meeting them somewhere else.

Since the majority of my client base is referral business I feel pretty secure in doing this but still take certain precautions by notifying someone in my famly where I am going and sending their contact information.  I always get a make and model of their car and if for some reason I feel uneasy also take a photo of their license plate and email it to my son or sister.

Although IL just allowed concealed carry laws never owning a gun I have not felt the need to take this step although I know that many realtors in other states do have them.

The story about the Arkansas realtor, 49-year-old Beverly Lyn Carter. who disappeared 3 days ago caught my attention as I read the FL  Realtor Newsletter today.  Apparently when she did not come home her husband went to check on her and he found her car and cell phone.  The story indicates that a suspect has been arrested.  As many of you know, September is Realtor Safety Month.  This is a very sad story and I pray that Beverly is found alive.

Perhaps its time to think about how safe we can make ourselves as we go about our daily work routine.  If you have not had a chance to visit NAR's Safety Resource for Realtors, perhaps today is a good day to check it out.

As of 9/30/2014 the news has been updated. Beverly Lyn Carter's body was found in a shallow grave at a cement factory where the accused suspect used to work according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.  More details will be given at a news conference today.  Our thoughts and condolences to her family.
