Lucy The Elephant
Recently we took a day ride along the Jersey shoreline to visit Lucy The Elephant in Margate, New Jersey. She stands day in and day out looking at the ocean and welcoming visitors to take pictures of her as well as pictures from the vantage points on top of her.
Lucy is a magnificent wooden structure built back in the late 1800's as a marketing tool to attract buyers of local real estate within eye shot of Lucy's view. She was actually built a few blocks north but moved to city land to ensure she was not torn down by a private party. She had a major face lift thanks to the efforts of a kind woman and many others who thought Lucy was worth saving from the wrecking ball. Lucy is a National Historical Landmark.
If you are ever at the Jersey Shore and have never seen Lucy The Elephant live and up close, I highly recommend you put her on your bucket list for she is a true marvel to behold! ---g
