Desert Canyon is home to 613 K through 5th grade students and is located at 10203 E. McDowell Mountain Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Schooldigger gives this school a 5 out of 5 star rating and Greatschools scores it a perfect 10 out of 10!  Desert Canyon enjoys strong and positive support from the community with 4 star ratings like this one "I have two children in Desert Canyon and they've been in the school for 4 years. For the most part, I think the teachers are fantastic. The environment is warm and nurturing but the kids aren't coddled. I would like to see greater consequences for children who are disruptive in class or are poorly behaved. I am disappointed with the turnover in administration and a change in the assistant principal again this year but for the most part, I think the administration runs a great school. The parents are very involved and the PTO has been fantastic in raising money to supplement curriculum with great programs like Accelerated Reader, Art Masterpiece, etc. In general, the kids and families in this school are wonderful and my children have really enjoyed their experience in the school. Is the school perfect? No, but what school is. —Submitted by a parent"  This school ranked better than 98.5% of elementary schools in Arizona and is #2 of the 18 ranked elementary school in the Scottsdale Unified School District.  The Arizona Department of Education gives letter grades to all schools based on an achievement formula calculated through annual testing.  Schools are graded by the number of students who pass and the amount of educational progress made during the year.  Desert Canyon has received a letter grade of "A" from the Department of Education.

Scottsdale Unified School District has a program called Enrichment Zone  and Desert Canyon is a participating school.  Special classes engage students in fun activities that create a desire to learn something new.  Students can explore activities that interest them outside of the regular school programs.  Rotating classes include athletics, fitness, Bricks4kids, Chess, Music Keyboarding, Parks and Rec. activities, golf, yoga, karate, art and many more.

Art Masterpiece is Here!
Scottsdale Unified School District offers a national art enrichment program called Art Masterpiece.  Every month, students have an opportunity to create their own “masterpiece” after they receive a lesson about a master artist.  These lessons include a PowerPoint presentation that showcase biographical information about the artist along with samples of their masterworks.   The students try and implement that artist’s particular style and technique as they create their own masterpieces.
