Late Fall is Still a Great Time to Plant Trees in Franklin TN

Many people get the urge to plant in the Spring when they feel the soft breezes start to blow. The sun is warming up the ground and they think, "Now's the time to plant"!

In truth, planting trees in the Fall, even the late Fall, is a great idea in Middle Tennessee. Planting up until the ground freezes in December allows the trees to establish a sound root structure before the hot winds and dry conditions of Summer are upon us. Another benefit of establishing the root structure early is that trees have a better chance of fighting off insect pests and diseases.

Choosing the right trees for your landscaping is a very subjective process. Be sure to check with your local nursery to get expert advice on the eventual size and best locations to plant your new trees. One of my favorite Franklin Nurseries is Riverbend Nursery on Lewisburg Pike. Their staff has always been extremely helpful to me.

It's still a great time to plant trees in Franklin TN, but don't wait too long. I heard Winter is coming!

Tom, I have always heard that fall is a good time to plant trees.  Not sure about the Rocky Mountain High.  We might have missed the window of opportunity.  Its hard to plant when the ground is frozen... lol

I did not know that. I park my car under a tree during the day that turns colors in the fall. I'd like to plant one of those in my yard but I don't know the name of the tree. I guess I'm going to find someone that does.

Hi Tom - Good advice. We have always planted trees in the fall with good results, mainly because our local nurseries always have great fall sales. We planted a lilac tree a couple of weeks ago - we didn't even know those came in trees as well as the more common bushes, and we have no idea what it's going to look like once it grows up.

Good evening Tom. I have to agree with you. I generally plant shrubs and some perennials this time of year. I go heavy on the root stimulator as I want to get the roots started during the winter months.

R & A--Of course it may be different in other parts of the country, but when I worked in Park systems we did the majority of our planting in the Fall.

Belinda--That frozen ground presents a problem!

David--Thanks for stopping by!

Sussie--You should grab up a couple of the leaves and take them to a quality Nursery. They should be able to identify the tree Sussie Sutton .

Dick--The fall sales can be sensational! I've had some hits and misses with trees that I bought on a whim. Good Luck with your Lilac tree!

Good morning Tom. It's a great time of the year for you to get trees and plants in the ground. A little too late for us in this area.

Tom, I heard that winter is coming as well. Other than one day of intense rain last week, I see no evidence of Mr. Winter here in Sunny, dry, drought California.  That is a nice shout out for your favorite local nursery.  Hopefully by now you have all the leaves raked and mulched so you can plant a tree.

Joe--For us it's still good...for you, time to break out the winter wear!

Kathleen--I still have lots of work to do. Tammie and I are having a little disagreement about where certain plantings should go. BTW, I'm going to lose that argument!

Tammy--LOL. I see Donald and I are in the same boat! See my comment to Kathleen.
