Aiken SC is unlike any other place I have ever lived - we have Hitchcock Woods, over 2100 acres in the center of town (it's 3 times the size of NY's Central Park, y'all!!) - Aiken Hounds hold fox hunts in the 'woods', we have an annual horse show in the 'woods'. and most importantly, the annual Blessing of the Hounds on Thanksgiving morning, which is the opening of the Aiken Hounds foxhunt season. -- the Blessing has been an annual event for 101 years...yes, 101 years!! Come join the tradition. -- Don't forget, only foot and hoof traffic in the 'woods', it's about a 1/2 mile walk into the woods to Memorial Gate where the Blessing is held. Enjoy!
Another Thanksgiving tradition is 'Bloodies and Bagels' on the lawn of the Aiken Historical Museum... stop by and meet and greet with neighbors, friends, the community and the Aiken Land Conservancy. Aiken Land Conservancy hosts this free event to raise awareness about land conservancy, Donations appreciated but not required. The bagels are deeeeelish!! I dont' drink Bloodies, but they have bottled water and hot cider available, too.
Swing by the museum on your way into the woods.... Happy Thanksgiving.
