Austin has been patiently waiting and is ready for the superfast speed of Google Fiber. Google claims speeds will be 100 times faster than the average broadband speed we are used to. While they have been delayed, signups are expected to start in December, starting with South and Southeast Austin.
Today they released their product pricing plans. Basic internet will cost a $300 construction fee, but then $0 per month. This will allow 5 Mbps download speed and 1 Mbps uploading. Basically, an install fee and then free internet for several years.
Their Gigabit Internet will cost you $70 per month. Watch out AT&T… their Gigabit Internet & TV package will only be $130 per month with more than 150 channels.
I live in a North Austin suburb. At this rate it will be awhile before Google Fiber makes it this way. Building the infrastructure from scratch has been more challenging than they anticipated. For now, guess I will have to deal with AT&T. But this pricing is enticing!
