Who cares about NAR? We all should - what's the alternative? There has been a lot of NAR-bashing lately, and I admit that I'm not 100% pleased with everything coming out of our august Realtor Association, but I would never consider quitting just because of that. I'm not 100% pleased with everything coming out of Washington, DC either, but I'm not going to move to another country.
NAR is not perfect, but can you tell me of any other group or association that works on our behalf year in and year out to protect our industry - our livliehood - our very existence? Do you think that Zillow, Trulia, or the big banks are looking out for our best interest? Do you remember that the banking system has been trying for years to get into the real estate industry and who has worked tirelessly to hold them back? Is your insurance lobbyist, your food and beverage lobbyist, your environmental lobbyist or your big business lobbyist scrapping to protect your right/ability to practice real estate? Just who else can we turn to besides our Congressman (whose attention is fragmented in about a 1000 different directions)?
This leads me to @LeighBrownRemax's piece written for Inman News where she likens those who don't want to be NAR members and those who don't contribute to RPAC to those who want everyone else to have vaccinations so they don't have to.
NAR and NAR's RPAC are our official political voice in Washington and in the nation. You should care about NAR if you are a practicing real estate agent - and if you don't like what you see, get involved. One person with determination can make a world of difference.
