Today in the news, our fair city is celebrating along with thousands of its residents and visitors a rise in property values for anyone with homes for sale in Kissimmee Florida…oh wait that’s not what the big party is for, is it? Sorry, I always seem to have a case of real estate brain...
Three months ago, the city completed a multimillion dollar renovation of the Kissimmee Lakefront Park. (Saint Cloud’s park renovation is only just barely nice I guess, in comparison.) I took a walk around today so I could share with you our great, newly modernized civic areas.
The grand opening is later today (January 30th, 2015) with a free concert by Frankie Negron, Uncle Kracker and Sugar Ray followed by a firework show! Thousands are expected to be in attendance. (View Event Info & Upcoming Events Here)
The renovation itself was done in three phases over the last 5 years and was budgeted at a cost of nearly $34 million. It was funded by the city mostly through sales tax and the grand project was finished under budget (how often do you here that) with a final cost of $30 million.
The park features an environmentally friendly design, with spectacular views of the lake and open spaces. Buyers looking for homes for sale in Kissimmee Florida will find that this park was built with the people of our city in mind. The road that used to bisect the lakefront park area has been removed, making the park safer for pedestrians. There are new interior sea walls designed as places someone could sit if they liked, and drainage areas leading to the lake are cleverly disguised as hidden “retention gardens” to be pleasing to residents’ eyes. The retention ponds are designed to exist as water features during our rainier months (sorry, they’re bone dry in my pictures today) as well as filter out less desirable pollutants from the water before it reaches our lake systems.
New, wider sidewalks make biking, jogging and walking your furry friend easier for pedestrians. Some sidewalks branch off into wooden trails made from recycled lumber through native plant and rock gardens featuring stones mined in Florida quarries.
Nature-minded buyers of homes for sale in Kissimmee Florida will find that everything used in the revitalization of our downtown lakefront park has a truly “Florida Feel” even the pavilions are named after native birds and wild life.
One of the most popular features of the park will surely be the kids attractions! The renovation features a splash park and two playgrounds where kids can play beneath a raised sunscreen tarp. These areas all feature depictions of Floridian nature designed to spark your children’s imaginations; animals, trees, and even a large tepee—representative of the Native American history of Osceola County, The entire area was once a Seminole stronghold.
Most of the new park facilities are booked—a year in advance at this time—and were built with history in mind. Each of the fifteen rentable pavilions were built in the early 1900’s style with tin roofs and wooden ceilings.
The Big Toho Marina with its 52 new, brick-paved floating docks is sure to be a feather-in-the-cap of any potential homeowner looking to buy homes for sale in in Kissimmee Florida. The marina was moved from its former place in the center of the park, to where it should have always been, down by the boat slips on the other end of the park.
The park is expected to draw people from outside the city and county in 2016 when the new SunRail station is extended into Downtown Kissimmee. The station will be just two blocks away, making it easier for Orlando and Winter Park natives to make a day of enjoying our new facilities and downtown areas.
If you are looking for a great place to live, work and play in Florida, this is it! Make sure that you don’t pass-up the great homes for sale in Kissimmee Florida, and come on down and enjoy our new park!
