The town of Gilbert encompasses 72.6 square miles just southeast of Phoenix.  The town that was incorporated in 1920 has transformed from an agricultural community to a diverse suburban community with a family focus.  Gilbert has been named the 2nd Safest City in the nation as well as the 22nd Best Place to Live in the United Stats by CNN/Money Magazine.

Downtown GilbertThe downtown area of Gilbert has recently gone through another transformation.  New eateries at Heritage Marketplace have provided some great new spots for locals to eat.  Such restaurants as Zinbuger, Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles, Barrio Queen, and Pomo Pizzeria Napoletana have opened to provide more choices.  Other Gilbert restaurants to check out are Joe's Real BBQ, Liberty Market, Oregano's, and Bergies Coffee Roast House.

There's lots to do in Gilbert with festivities throughout the year.  Each year the town celebrates Gilbert Days Parade and Rodeo, and hosts Festivals such as Feathered Friends Festival, Global Village Festival, Night of Lights, BARKtobervest, Constitution Week, and a Hot Air Balloon Festival.  Gilbert also features the KA-POW Superhero Adventure Run each year.  There's also a downtown concert series as well as free music in the park at a local park.  Gilbert also has seasonal farmer's markets.

 

Gilbert has several area parks and recreation centers, including Freestone Park with an amphitheater, recreation center and miniature railroad.  Click here for more information about Freestone Park.  There's also Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch that includes picnic areas, trials and an education center.  Riparian at Water Ranch's mission is to promote awareness off Arizona's ecology as well has it's natural history.  Gilbert also has four local pools:  Mesquite Aquatic Center, Williams Field Pool, Perry Pool and Greenfield Pool.  

The golfers won't be disappointed in their options of courses in Gilbert.  There are seven golf courses that offer a great variety of golfing experiences.

Gilbert's Public Schools system is "A" Rated school district.  The district has over 39,000 students at 26 elementary schools, 6 junior high schools and 5 high schools.  The district also has 2 academies, 1 global academy and 1 school for alternative education.  The Gilbert Public Schools system has certainly grown since it's first school, Gilbert Elementary opened in 1913.

Gilbert has a wide array of neighborhoods available, including Agritopia, a housing development centered on an urban working farm.  The master-planned community of Val Vista Lakes offers a nine hundred acre "water-wonderland."  The community has four sports parks, meandering bike paths, a clubhouse with tennis complex, indoor racquetball courts, swimming pools, meeting rooms, waterfalls and a tropical lagoon swimming pool with a sandy beach.  Truly Gilbert has some unique communities with great amenities.

There are numerous other subdivisions close to the local parks like Freestone and within walking distance of Gilbert's downtown area.  Stonecreek, Sonoma Ranch and Park Village are just a few.
