Did you even know? Did you know when it is? Do you know who signed the bill into Law? Did you know it's one of only two days at American Flags should be flown at half staff?
To pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved October 1, 1962 (75 Stat.676), has authorized and requested the President to designate May 15 of each year as "Peace Officers Memorial Day," and the week in which it falls as "National Police Week" and by Public Law 103-322 (36 U.S.C. 175) has requested that the flag be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
I'll let you go and look up the information about Peace Officer Memorial Day. But I'm asking you to honor it. I'm asking you to remember that some officer laid down in life in the service of citizens. I'm asking you to care about Peace Officers.

Please fly your flag at half staff on May 15th.
Now I'm going to show you why this is so VERY important to me.
My Donald is a peace officer and I think if you ever read a blog post where I wrote about him or if you ever saw us together you know he's my world. Being in love with him for the past 16 years has given me an insight into his world. When we met he was working close personal security in Germany for "THE MAN". I remember asking him and him answering in the affirmative that he would indeed jump in front of and take a bullet for his boss. Would you? Today I know that not only would he step between that man a bullet, but that he would step between me, or YOU and bullet too. He serves. He did it in the Army as a MP and his does for the state now. As you can see he's also very important in my daughter's life as well. And when 40 peace officers have died in the line of duty in the first 4 months of 2015, that's too many.
And now that I've brought my beautiful daughter into this story, it just so happens that the man she loves is also a Peace Officer, Justin Seymour. I know, I know, but what can I tell you.... apple, tree and all that. He's a really sweet guy. So you see, when a police officer dies it touches my family in a very personal day.
Justin's Brother is also a state trooper. My daughter's childhood best friend had law enforcement officer parents. She has a cousin who is a state trooper. My uncle was a state trooper. And with Abigail working the past 4 and half years with EMS she certainly has relied on come to depend on and trust and love many officers on the job as well. Sometimes they have her back when she is on a call.
So as you go about your business today if you see a flag not at half mast somewhere, would you ask them to lower it. Would you tell them it is national Peace Officer Memorial Day Would you lower your flag? Mine will be. My flag will at half mast in honor of Officer Will Robinson IV and all the other officers that have lost their lives. It's a very important and very underpaid and under appreciated job.
Honor fallen officers today! Tell someone about Peace Officer Memorial Day. Write your own post about it. Honor them!
