As a young person, our family would watch TV on Saturday and Sunday evenings....Mama would pop .....popcorn and we would sit around and watch the Ed Sullivan Show. We would see the new performers enter into the entertainment arena.
I remember seeing Stevie Wonder doing the finger poppin thing and also the Jackson 5 along with The Beatles and Elvis..
What talented these folks had.
WE have lost so many of those talented individuals...does that mean we are getting that much older?

Ginger - Well, we are all getting older that's for sure. Nowadays, I think that the talent performers and entertainers have is just different, and there are so many that you don't get the mega stars we used to have. Anyone on YouTube these days becomes a star.
Troy. You are so right. Not that I always agree with those mega stars...Could not tell you who or what Lady Gaga is..LOL
I was just discussing classical music with someone the other day... Mozart, Beethoven, etc. There will still be high caliber talents but they won't appear to the public in the same ways as in the past.
Good evening Jason. We listen to WHQR PBS most of the time. I just do not enjoy the music of the youngsters of today.
We had some great musicians, bands and songwriters back then. I am not a fan of monotonous "songs" I hear today. Sad that so many successful people end up taking drugs and dieing of a drug overdose.
I was a musician in high school and college in PA and played on weekends. All kinds of music over the years: marching band, polkas, rock, jazz, musicals, country. I remember the Ed Sullivan Show and Bonanza. We have a local TV channel that is part of the COZI TV network. They show a lot of the old TV programs including westerns from the 1950s and 1960s.
Hi Ginger Harper , It seems like yesterday some of these great performers were teenagers, and now they are in their 70's or gone.
And sadly, we just lost BB King. I don't think he ever played on Ed Sullivan. Yes, I remember those Sunday night hours in front of the TV secretly getting excited about my future in music...my parents had no clue their young daughter was so influenced by Ed Sullivan's guests!
I was raised around musicians so I can appreciate all types of music--even genres that do not really appeal to me. That said, I just so not see many songs from this era standing the test of time 20-25 years from now.
Jerry, YOu are so right. WE had talented people that gave us many songs to enjoy. I miss those songs...

LInda..Me too. I enjoy the old movies and program that we grew up on.
The classic ones..I have copies of and rewatch on occasion.
