Warm Weather Crime Precautions in Kentlands
The following message was posted on the Kentlands Neighborhood Watch by Dan Lane, the Community Services Officer for our community at the Gaithersburg Police Department.
“I wanted to pass on to you and ask that you pass on to your fellow neighbors, to keep an eye out for anything suspicious that may occur within your respective communities. With the warm weather upon us and our busy schedules, we tend to forget about the little things such as locking our cars and placing items of value out of sight. Remember, a theft from auto is a “Crime of Opportunity” and those who wish to commit those crimes will do so if the opportunity presents itself.
Theft from autos and theft of auto parts are crimes we are seeing occur around the City and not to a specific community. Such items taken have been loose change, bags, GPS units, sunglasses, license plates, catalytic converters, work related tools, etc.
We are asking residents, if they see something suspicious such as individuals pulling on car handles, looking into cars or even working on cars late at night to call police at 301.279.8000. Be as descriptive as possible to what you are seeing when you call such as clothing, direction of travel and what you are seeing them do. This will assist responding officers.”
