Whenever someone invites me over for dinner or a party I'm there.
I think lots of new buyers might invite their Realtor because you're often one of the few people in the area they know fairly well.
Sellers wouldn't invited you to anything unless they though you did a pretty good job getting their house sold so I would take advantage to network and meet future business while the good vibrations of a recent success story were still strong in the air.
I get asked for free real estate advice all the time.
In fact the pew my wife and I usually sit in at church is towards the back and we share one end with a couple who used to operate a garage; we call our end of the pew "the advice corner". people are always stopping by asking car or housing questions. ;-)
I would go. Your profession is all based on relationships and networking. I would hope that you are offering everyone free advice, otherwise the next agent will. It is part of what you do and the positive impact it has on your business is great.
