Thank goodness for honesty

I am so proud to be writing this blog - there is hope for humans everywhere.

Yesterday, while driving home from appointments, my car was idling at a stop light when the (*^@* idiot in front of me decided he didn’t want to be in our lane and to move over to the “faster” lane.  He put his car in reverse, stomped down REALLY hard on his gas pedal and promptly smashed into the front end of my car.  BOOM!!!!  This was despite my BLARING my car horn as soon as I saw the back up lights come on.

My first thought - what an idiot!!!!!   Second, what if he LIES and tells the insurance company I ran into him while he was waiting at the light.

After calling my husband and screaming at him about this idiot, I next called 911 and then called my insurance agent.  This idiot came up to my window and suggested we drive around the corner into the nearby gas station.  I grabbed my cell phone again, took a photo of his out of state license plate and then followed him to the station.

He took out a pen and paper, handed me his insurance card, and confessed he was totally at fault.  Then, as the policeman drove up, he walked up, told the policeman he was totally at fault.  What?  An honest person?

This AM, when I called into the insurance claims department, this “idiot” had already called in the claim, told them my name and information and alerted them that I would be calling.  He did tell them exactly what happened and that he was totally at fault.

Bottom line - honesty is truly the best policy.  No one was hurt, my car has already been towed to the body shop, and I’m driving a perky little rental car.

Most important, I’m convinced there is hope for the human race because this gentleman had the decency to be HONEST.

Be well, stay cool in this Arizona heat!!!

Juli, first of all, I am relieved that neither of you are injured!

Isn't honesty a GREAT thing as our percention  can change from someone being an idiot  to a gentleman  because the individual was honest and told the truth?

Juli, Glad everyone is okay and the other driver stepped up to the plate....unlike that (*$(&()*&(#*&(*@!!!! trucking company that sideswiped me last year.  I firmly believe thier official company policy was lie and deny unless someone had witnesses against them.  Bill

There are good people. Unfortunately it is human nature to expect the worse and then something like this happens to renew our faith. Great lesson.

There really are some honest people out there. I'm glad this story had a happy ending...at least as happy as it could be considering now you have to have your car fixed. I"m glad you are OK, too.

Wow, thank you all for your comments.  Yes, we were both okay to those asking.  And, yes, interesting that we don't tend to EXPECT honesty.  Actually, that's really sad to have to even say it, but, unfortunately, I think we all have experienced other incidences to put the negatives in our mind.

Don't you just hate it when you build up all that anger and then someone jsut does the right thing and you've created all that anger for nothing

It's wonderful when people take responsibility for themselves! Glad no one was hurt. What kind of rental car do you have? I'm imaging a little Kia Soul, since you said "perky".

Juli, Chalk one up for the good guys.  Good people do stupid things.  Sometimes we just don't think. Owning up to what we do is the best policy.  I hope your car will be restored soon. Glad to know you were not injured.
