Is Your Real Estate Career On A Bumpy Ride?

One of the questions I get asked when talking to real estate agents about goal setting is:  “Where do I begin”?

I always recommend to start by filling out a “Wheel of Life”.  This exercise will clarify your priorities for goal-setting. This fits YOUR definition of success and balance in life. Balance is personal and unique to each individual.  If your life isn't balanced, it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Here are the instructions for completing the Wheel Of Life (refer to the sample, completed image below):

1) Save the images and print them, if possible.  Otherwise, you can just look at the images and do a hand drawing for yourself. You should be able to enlarge the images by clicking on them… then copy and print.  If you cannot print them, a freehand drawing will work.

2) Relabel any categories you think are not important to you and replace with something that is important to you.

3) Think about how happy you are in each area of your life.  This is your definition, not what someone else thinks.  On a scale of 0 to 10 (10 being the happiest), put a dot in the pie section of each.  0 starts in the center and works outward.

4) When you are done, connect the dots.  This will show you how well balanced your wheel is.  Most people do NOT have a balanced Wheel and this is how they identify where to begin with goal setting.

It is my opinion, that the “”career” & “money” sections are key components to the other areas.  And, they ARE separate. You can be happy with your “career” but not be earning the “money” you want.  Or, you could be earning a lot of “money” and not be happy with the “career”.   If you are satisfied with your career and the amount of money you are earning, you can spend time improving your satisfaction in the other areas of life.  It doesn’t mean you need to make a lot of money.

The challenge, of course, is getting the areas balanced… and that’s where the goal setting begins!

Stay tuned for future discussions about that.

Staying in the zone isn't always easy, is it Paul... especially when other people are stirring up the wind.  LOL
