While camping this weekend we were parked right under a small cluster of trees. They were very noisy trees. Not because the wind was blowing threw them at a pretty good clip (and it was) but because there were several nesting birds of different species in the small cluster of trees.
The little guy in the picture above got himself kicked out of the nest no less then 3 times in the 24 hours we were there. Each time my daughter Tina and I would put on gloves, to keep our scent from making him undesirable to his mother, and put him as high up on the branch as we could (usually about 6 feet shy of the nest.
The last time we did it was about 8 hours or more before we left. We think the 3rd time was the charm.
Isn't this the way it's supposed to be with us humans? When we see our fellow man down shouldn't we pick him/her up, try not to taint them with our actions so that they will not be undesirable to their/our Father as we lift them up so they can continue their journey home? I think in doing so we make our own journey home more pleasant and worth while.
If you were wondering what kind of bird this chick was we were told by an interesting story teller (a fellow camper) that it is a King bird. You may also note that just to the left of the chick, on another branch, is a dove sitting on a nest of her own eggs. When ever the chick fell the dove of course did nothing. When ever the chick fell there were several black birds that came racing over to try to attack the chick. I think there is another lesson there.
