Hitting the 'pause' button in Steamboat

Every once in a while, I forget where I live and how close I am to the great outdoors. I know it sounds lame and ridiculous, but it is all about finding the balance in life. Sometimes, I also take for granted the "vacation land" I live in all the time and the serenity that can be found just a short drive from town. Usually, the excuses are because of working too much...or thinking I need to work and then it happens. I hit the pause button and head for the hills.

This weekend, I took off to Rabbit Ears because I heard the wildflowers were amazing this year. It was one of our unbelievable bluebird days with idyllic white puffy clouds and the wildflower colors popped off of the landscape. Between the crystal blue sky, huge array of purples, yellows, reds and greens it was as if all of it was in technicolor. I thought surely my photos wouldn't capture the magic, but much to my delight I have some great pics of my "pause" day in the Rabbit Ears terrain.

If you're headed up this way from the front range, make sure to make a pit stop at Rabbit Ears. You don't have to go very far up the road to see the explosion of colors. I hear it is also pretty fantastic up on Mt. Werner and Buffalo Pass, so wherever your adventures take you make sure you bring your camera...and pause!
